Friday Night Recap


When last we saw our intrepid(?) heroes(?), they'd stopped at a late-night coffee shop to discuss what to do now. They'd all had encounters with strange spiders, made all the stranger by it being a wintery January in Boston. Now, they'd also seen one of their own speak with a corpse, and Toru (who was supposed to be protecting the man who became the corpse) has been charged with stopping the machinations of General Kumo. Whatever his plans are...

As Toru and Pandora were getting catty, Halcyon was contacted by his friends at the soup kitchen. One of their regulars, a man named Zeke (who Halcyon had previously saved from the venom of a giant spider), had just gone mad, dashed into traffic, and hit by a car. Then a witness said a spider had crawled out of his head. After hearing this, the group split up.

Victor, Trilbi, and Will hung out, finishing their coffee, as they were running on autopilot.

Pandora called one of her contacts and arranged for a ride home.

Halcyon and Toru hopped on the T and headed for the soup kitchen to see what else they could learn.

Meanwhile, a pooka named Miranda "Randy" (Randi?) had gone to the open air market by Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market. She poked around, looking for interesting people and things, and found a large, blue-green spider curled up, dead, in the snow. She plopped the carcass in her bag and proceeded to use some of her magic to make an effegy of it, which she used to terroize people.

Also meanwhile, a vampire named Harry Dresden, working as an enforcer for the mob, was sent to the marketplace to find a man named Chin, who was working for a Chinese syndicate, selling drugs to minors.

After Randy's r/c spider got stomped, she noticed an over pretentious-looking man in a suit (complete with plastic covers on his nice, shiny shoes to protect them from the slush), carrying a briefcase. In the effort to get him more into the holiday spirit, she levitated a Santa hat from a stall and put it on him. Unfortunately, the hat was a bit vigorous, engulfing the man's head to his nose and beyond. He slipped on the slush and fell, flailing and cursing. A Shidhe, in jeans and a leather jacket, quickly scooped up the briefcase and hurried away. Randy followed him, and manged to tangle his feet, causing him to trip and loose the case. She manipulated it through the crowd, to a point where she could scoop it up herself.

At this time, Harry found his man. Swooping in, he slashed low, severing Chin's Achilles' tendons, and tried to do the same to a man who appeared to be a drug runner/buyer/supplier. Unfortately, he wasn't as successful. The man pulled his gun and opened fire. His first shot creased Chin's skull. Harry pressed on, slashing the man with his knife. The man got in a good shot, hitting Harry center-of-mass, and leaving a terrible wound. Harnessing the power in his blood, Harry managed to repair some of the damage, then kill his enemy. Carrying Chin, he called for a pick up and hurried from the scene to interrogate his prisoner later.

The gunfire in the market started a mass panic and a hurried exodus. Miranda followed the flow of traffic, keeping the briefcase tight to her side, and hoping to avoid contact with either its owner, or the thief she took it from.

Working quickly to respond to hundreds of calls about a terrorist attack dowtown, the police ordered all the T trains to stop and the next station and get the passengers out before they became a target. Halcyon and Toru were dumped out downtown. Walking towards their destination, they spotted Randy, who was being tailed by the leather-jacketed elf. Halcyon recognized him as the one who dumped the large wad of cash into Will's hat earlier, which had attracted the inital spider. At least, he matched the description as related by Will previously.

They moved in. Halcyon tripping up the elf with a spell, and Toru cornering the pooka. As they confronted the elf about the spider-money, the elf tried to hit Halcyon with a spell. It failed, so he tried to run. Again, Halcyon tripped him with a spell. This time, he fell into the street, nearly getting hit by a large Ford sedan.

As the sedan squealed to a halt, the back door opened and Chin fell out. He struggled to escape, but Harry emerged and slammed his head into the ground, then tossed him back in. As he did so, Halcyon and Toru noticed the spider tatoo on just below and behind Chin's right ear. Harry climbed back into the car, and began breaking Chin's limbs to prevent another escape. Another car, coming from the other direction appeared, and swerved as it stopped, boxing in Harry's car. Pandora got out of the back, and began talking to the large man, Leon, who was acting as Harry's driver.

In a bid to escape, the elf began another spell. Together with the newly revived blue-green spider, which Randy flung at Toru, it was enough of a distraction for Randy to slip away. But, as she did so, she came face to face with the giant spider the elf called up from the sewers. It swatted her out of the way, and came forward. Leon and Pandora opened fire on it, Toru dashed forward and slashed at it with her hidden sword, and Halcyon threw spells at it. The spider mostly ignored them all.

As the battle raged on, Randy tried to escape again, but had issues with ice. Pandora called to the elements, igniting the elf's pants to keep him from fleeing again. Leon decided to shift into his war from, but botched and collapsed in ball of pain. Toru shifted to her fox form to escape from the spider's jaws. Then, Pandora conjured a small fire on the spider's back, and Halcyon worked to make the fire larger.

Suddenly, the spider began to hemorrage icor from every seam in its chitinous armor. Randy, having finally gained her feet and some traction, nearly ran headlong into a newcomer. A man dressed as a priest. He attempted to detain her as Halcyon mananged to trip (yet again) and knock unconscious the elf, before he finished up the beast.

As we finished up, Randy managed to escape, Leon returned to the car and left the scene with Harry and their captive, Pandora and her ride departed, leaving Toru and Halcyon with the elf as their prisoner.
